Shipping accreditation for relays underpins quality and reliability for critical applications

Leading manufacturer of relays and timers Finder has been awarded shipping accreditation from no less than three sources, highlighting the company’s products’ high quality and reliability. Many of the applications for Finder relays on board ships are associated with critical systems, and their reliable operation is a vital element in the safe functioning of the vessel.

relaysAccreditation to the highly respected American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR) and Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) now cover Finder’s ‘20 series’ step relay, and a further five of Finder’s series of conventional electromechanical relays covering 40, 44, 55, 60 and 62 series units.
Because of the rigours and more serious consequences of ship borne use, electrical components require additional testing and tighter manufacturing surveillance than that generally considered sufficient for industrial applications.
Areas of use are as varied as exist in land-based applications - although some are more unusual. More recent examples range from the extensive control of lighting and environment of cabins in luxury cruise liners using the 20 series step relay, to the use of conventional relays as current sensing devices to detect filament failure within the ship’s all-critical navigation lights.

Finder is one of Europe’s biggest manufacturers of relays, and has long enjoyed business in the exacting world of marine applications. The company has been steadily extending the number of its products endorsed by one or more of the worlds leading Shipping Approvals organisations.
